Music:

Year 7 Music (10 weeks) introduces students to the fundamentals of music through practical performance, listening, composition and music literacy. Students develop rhythm and aural skills, learn to read and write basic music notation, explore the instruments of the orchestra, perform on a range of instruments, create music using digital technologies, and participate in both solo and ensemble performances.

Students can choose to study Music in 8 for a semester. At Year 9 and Year 10 students can choose one or two semesters.  

Students 8-10 study theory at their own level, write about their own work and analyse others to learn how to express musical ideas. Students are assessed on their skills, knowledge and understanding in practical, written and aural tasks.  

Music students 8-12 also attend weekly instrumental lessons on an instrument of their choice and perform in class ensembles, choir and/or bands. 

In Year 8, students develop skills in composition and learn about Jazz, Film Music and Careers in Music

In Year 9 students develop skills in composition and in the analysis of Australian Rock Music.

In Year 10, students develop skills in composition, arrangement and recording using music software. They analyse music from a range of genres and eras and perform as soloists and ensemble musicians.

Please note Music incurs an additional subject levy from year 8 to 12.

Students who choose to participate in Instrumental Music lessons will be charged the $110 per semester Music Subject Fee.

• If your young person participates in both Music and Instrumental Music, you will not be charged twice. The Music Subject Fee covers their participation in both.
• If your young person participates in Instrumental Music only and does not take a Music class, the Music Subject Fee still applies.

Music Production:
Music Production is offered for Years 7-10 within the music class where students choose to study the production aspects of music. For example, supporting bands and ensembles with technical and logistical tasks, recording and mixing live and in the studio setting.
