01-Apr-21An update on the happenings at MGHS.
Dear Mitcham families,
I hope you all had a great Week 10. The school has been buzzing with activity. This week it is my privilege to be writing to you with some important announcement and exciting news.
Firstly, congratulations to our Principal Nathan Cini on the safe arrival of his second child Maeve. Nathan and Larissa are thrilled that Mina has a little sister. Please be aware that Nathan has been on leave this week and will respond to email communications once he returns from parental leave.
Congratulations also to our French teacher Jonathon Bennallack on the safe arrival of his third child Camille. Another girl in the family!
This week, our parent update includes a message from our Education Director Mr Richard Costi, announcing the appointment of a new principal at Mitcham Girls.
It is with great delight to announce that Ms Linda Richardson has won the Principal position at Mitcham Girls High School. Linda has an extensive leadership history. Linda was initially a secondary teacher and is currently the Principal of Plympton International College. Linda has led Plympton for the last 6 years; she has completely turned the school around. Enrolments have gone from 350 to over 700 in this time and all literacy, numeracy and SACE results have improved significantly. Linda will be well placed to deal with the high growth in enrolments we have seen at Mitcham Girls. Prior to that she was the successful Principal at St Leonards Primary School for 6 years, which became a school of choice in the Glenelg area. She was also Principal and Deputy at Keith Area School. Linda's skills and experience will really complement the Mitcham Girls' leadership team, partnership leaders and her secondary colleagues.
Linda brings excellent leadership, management and people skills to Mitcham. She is a leader, a learner and a team player, Linda is genuinely excited to be the Principal at Mitcham Girls and looks forward to getting to know the students, staff and community. Linda wants to build onto the successes of this wonderful school. Linda needs to finish her work at Plympton and will start at Mitcham in Week 5 of Term 2.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Nathan Cini for taking on the Principal role and he will continue into Term 2. Instead of commencing as Deputy Principal this year he started as Principal. Nathan has taken everything in his stride and together with Sarah Chambers as Deputy Principal, has led the school admirably and seamlessly. All the good work has continued and educational leadership has blossomed. I have been at the school 6 or 7 times this term and I have consistently heard from teachers, SSOs, students and parents what a great year they are having. The culture is both positive and highly productive. So a big thanks to Nathan, Sarah, the wider leadership team and the staff. A personal congratulations to Nathan who this week became the proud father of a baby girl for the second time.
Mitcham Girls is in great hands and I know with Linda Richardson joining the team it will get even better.
I take this opportunity to welcome and congratulate Linda, and thank and congratulate Nathan and Sarah for their leadership.

A reminder that our reports are moving to Daymap. At the end of Term 1, each student will receive a Progress Report detailing their academic achievement and progress for the term. To view the reports, parents and caregivers as well as students will need to log in to Daymap. Please note that you don't have to wait until the end of the term to see how your student is tracking; log in to Daymap today to find out more about academic achievement and attendance, as well as any teacher communications.
If you require a printed version of the Term 1 Progress Report, please contact the school and we will be happy to accommodate this request.
Learning Conversations will take place on Wednesday of Week 2, Term 2 from 11.00AM to 7.00PM. To facilitate the opportunity for a parent or caregiver to meet with teachers with their child present, we will modify the school day so that all lessons are cancelled. These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to meet the teachers working with your students, to discuss progress and work together to improve your child's academic outcomes as well as their connectedness to our school. Parents and caregivers will be able to schedule an appointment with teachers via the Daymap portal. The booking portal will open in Week 1 of Term 2, with detailed instructions on how to access the portal and make a booking. As these conversations are focused on learning, bookings with caregroup teachers are not available during this time. If you would like to speak to your child's caregroup teacher, please contact them via Daymap or email.

This week a group of staff and students visited OneConstruct to see our new building under construction offsite. It was wonderful to be able to see the progress of this important project for our community and we look forward to seeing the building arrive onsite later in the year.
A group of Year 11 students attended the Tertiary Pathways and Careers Exhibition this week. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore opportunities and meet with a range of employers and education providers to build their understanding of the possible post-school pathways open to them.
It was fantastic to welcome the families and friends of our music students to the first of our Music Showcases for 2021. What a talented bunch of students we have!
Our wonderful SRC Executives applied their leadership learnings in the running of an SRC Training Day today. It was great to see their leadership in action and the energy and ideas generated by our students around how the SRC might “Improve, Increase, Innovate and Invent” within their school community.
