Year 7 Pilot Program

Our aim is to strengthen the Home-School partnership through offering guidance and support to parents and students by keeping you up to date with the school’s preparation for the Year 7 to HS Pilot.

In Term 3 the Leadership Team will meet with all Year 6 students who will have enrolled in Year 7 for 2021 which will provide us with an insight into the needs and interests of our future students.  If you would like to discuss the Pilot and/or receive further information, please consider the following:

Year 7 Camp
Building a congenial and supportive environment is paramount to ensuring success at Mitcham Girls High School and the recent Year 7 camp at Wallaroo provided a perfect opportunity to establish friendships and build self-confidence.

CU@Wallaroo is located in an idyllic location, only a short walk from the beach and the warm sunny weather experienced during Week 3 of Term 1 guaranteed a fantastic and fun-filled stay.

Students from 7.05, 7.06 and 7.07 attended the first camp from Monday to Wednesday and were followed by students from caregroups 7.08, 7.09 and 7.10 on the second camp.

Students were involved in a range of fun team-building activities offered by the Active Education staff as well as having the opportunity to go swimming, kayaking and orienteering. The water sports proved to be very popular given the warm and near-perfect conditions.

Semester 2
The Year 7 students have settled in well and are now exploring new concepts in their second semester topics. The focus of the Year 7 pastoral care program in Term 3 will be on goal setting and identifying individual learning styles.

In Week 3, Year 7 students will be participating in a silent disco. The aim of this event is to engage with students – get them to have some FUN, and leave them feeling refreshed, capable, and empowered, simultaneously boosting morale for students and staff. Increasing movement and the opportunity to safely play and relax – will help the girls settle back into routine and help restore calm to their lives. This activity combines movement through dance and music therapy, as well as mindfulness meditation.

Later in the term, a guest speaker from Headspace will be presenting to the Year 7 students to educate them on the following:

• Understanding your mental health and wellbeing
• Breaking down stigma about mental health
• Exploring coping strategies
• Noticing within yourself when you need support
• Understanding and practicing how to access supports with trusted adults and services

Year 7 2021
Enrolments for the 2021 Year 7 intake are now closed.

On 20, 21 and 22 August staff met with the majority of current Year 6 students who have enrolled to attend Mitcham Girls High School in 2021.  This provided us with great insight to the needs and interests of our future students. We thank parents and students for taking the time to meet with one or more of our members of staff to introduce yourselves and ask any questions you had about the Year 7 to High School Pilot Program.

• Year 7 Jackets:  Now that we have the student’s sizes, an order can be placed for the Year 7 Jackets. These will be presented to students at the Induction Assembly in Term 4.
   
• Year 7 School Tours:  We have scheduled two School Tours on Thursday 17 September: 9:10-10:00am and 11:10am – 12:00pm. The tours are open to one adult and one student per family.  If you wish to book for one of these sessions please email Jo Speck at jo.speck469@schools.sa.edu.au.  
   
• Year 7 Transition Days:  Extensive planning has gone in to planning for the upcoming transition days. There will be two transitions days held in Term 4, Wednesday 4 November and Wednesday 2 December.  Further information will be forwarded to incoming families early Term 4.  
   
• Year 7 GifT Test/s:  Students enrolled for Year 7 2021 have the opportunity to be considered for the Year 7 GifT Academic Program.  If you would like to register your daughter please complete the online registration form via https://tinyurl.com/y2o8k63h no later than Friday 25 September.
