Enrolments

Mitcham Girls High School is one of only two public girls' schools in South Australia, and girls can apply to attend regardless of where they live.  It is situated only 6 kilometres from the heart of the city and is easily accessible by public transport.

Year 7 and Year 8 entry in 2021

Applications for Year 7 and Year 8 in 2021 are closed.

We encourage families to contact their local secondary school to discuss enrolment for 2021.

Year 7 entry in 2022

Families will apply for Year 7 entry in 2022 through the Department’s state-wide registration of interest process for students to go to public secondary schools. This registration process for families will generally start in Term 2, 2021.

If through the registration of interest process, demand from families exceeds places available, consideration will be given to:

• distance from the child’s home to the school
• social and family links to the school
• curriculum opportunities available at the school (excluding special interest programs)
• transportation and location convenience

In some cases, automatic entry may be applied, where:

• the child has a sibling attending the school at the same time
• the child has received and accepted an offer to participate in our special interest Dance program
• the child identifies as Aboriginal through the Enter for Success program (by the end of Term 4)
• the child has been granted enrolment due to special consideration, such as children in care or guardianship order made under the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017.

Families not offered enrolment, or late applications after the close of the state-wide registration of interest process (end of Term 2) will be placed on a ranked waiting list and contacted by the school if a place becomes available in Term 4.

Applications will be considered if or when places exist. In these cases, applications will be considered based on siblings at the school, the distance of the child’s residence from the school and any other personal needs, such as curriculum (excluding special interest programs), transportation/location convenience, and social/family links to the school.

Where your child is ranked on the waiting list will not be released.

Year 8 in 2022

In 2019, Mitcham Girls High School was one of three pilot schools in South Australia accepting Year 7 students ahead of the state-wide move in 2022.

Due to the continued level of interest from families through our Year 7 entry process, we will be unable to accommodate additional Year 8 applications through the Department’s state-wide registration of interest process for students starting secondary school in 2022.

Note: the only additional applications that will be considered for Year 8 in 2022 will be children who identify as Aboriginal through the Enter for Success program and children granted enrolment due to special consideration, including children in care. These will be assessed by the Department on a case by case basis.

There will not be a ranked waiting list for Year 8 enrolment to the school for 2022.

Years 9 to 12

Applications for enrolment from parents of prospective students for Year 9 to Year 12 will be considered if or when places are available.

In these cases, applications will be considered based on siblings at the school, the distance of the child’s residence from the school and any other personal needs, such as curriculum, transportation/location convenience, and social/family links.

Families should complete the Registration of Interest to Enrol and email to dl.0903.info@schools.sa.edu.au. If a place is available you will be contacted by a Student Wellbeing Leader to attend an interview at the school.
