The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. Together, the three strands focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Learning in English is designed to build on concepts, skills and processes developed in previous years. As they progress through their schooling, students will read and engage with more complex texts and further develop their critical and creative thinking skills.
In English classes, students interact with others for a variety of purposes. They engage with a range of texts for enjoyment, as well as discussing and responding to literary texts in different ways. Students create a range of written and multimodal texts, including aesthetic, imaginative, reflective, informative, persuasive and/or analytical texts for different audiences.
Students are required to study the Australian Curriculum: English from years 7 to 10.
