Leading the Way Year 7 to High School - Mitcham Girls High School Pilot

The South Australian public education system will be moving Year 7 to High School in 2022.  This will bring our State into line with the national curriculum taught in high schools and make it easier to deliver subjects and improve outcomes for students.

A small pilot program of 3 high schools has been identified to significantly contribute to the project planning, communications, and successful implementation of Year 7 transition to high school in this State.

Mitcham Girls High School has been short-listed to join the pilot program.  Two other high schools have also been short-listed for the pilot program; Wirreanda Secondary School and John Pirie Secondary School.

The schools were selected because of their strong connections and positive working relationships, focus on the important transition between primary school and high school, and progressive approaches to teaching and learning.

REGISTRATIONS OF INTEREST FOR YEAR 7 INTAKE 2020 ARE NOW CLOSED.

We have received a high level of interest from families wishing to enrol in Year 7 for 2020 at Mitcham Girls High School.

It is encouraging to see such a strong response and we look forward to welcoming Year 7 students into our school.

We have reached our ideal registration numbers to deliver progressive and quality teaching learning for Year 7.

The registration of interest process has closed and any late applications will be placed on a waiting list.

Parents interested in being placed on a waiting list should contact the school at 8272 8233.

Normal transition and enrolment processes will continue at Mitcham Girls High School for current Year 7s enrolling as Year 8s in 2020.

Being in a unique position as the only state, girls’ school in SA, aligned to our small, nurturing environment with both a strong focus on the Arts and STEM, this is a unique opportunity for your daughter.

Year 7-8 Transition Process

As Mitcham Girls High is a public school, the transition process is managed through the Department for Education.  Parents should be aware that, due to the information being processed at a state-wide level, the process is a lengthy one.

The Year 7-8 transition process will commence in the last week of Term 1/early Term 2.  Year 7 students attending a government primary school will be given a transition pack at this time, or non-government families can request a transition pack from education.startingsecondaryschool@sa.gov.au.  Parents must complete the Registration of Interest for Placement in Year 8 (PDF example).

For enrolment at Mitcham Girls High School, parents need to indicate on their Registration of Interest that their daughter does not wish to attend her zoned high school.  If a parent indicates Mitcham Girls High School on the form, as the student's Choice 1 School, then she will be automatically assigned to attend Mitcham Girls.  No supporting evidence is necessary as Mitcham Girls is not a zoned school and, being the only single sex school in the State, it aims at accepting all Year 8 students who believe they will benefit from a single sex environment.

An acceptance pack will be sent to all students who have applied to come to Mitcham Girls High School by the end of Week 4, Term 3. The Mitcham Girls High School acceptance pack includes our school enrolment forms. These forms must be completed and returned directly to the school as soon as possible.  Prompt return of the forms will guarantee your daughter's place and give her a greater chance of receiving her first preference choice subjects.

Mitcham Girls High School holds a Transition Day for future Year 8 students. You will be advised of the date in your acceptance pack and through further correspondence.

For further information on the general process visit the Deparment for Education website or phone Mitcham Girls High School.

Years 9 to 12

Enrolment at Mitcham Girls for Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 is dependent on student numbers and subject availability.

Interested parents will need to phone the school to express their interest or complete the Registration of Interest to Enrol and email to dl.0903.info@schools.sa.edu.au. The enrolling parent will then be contacted within a few days by a school counsellor.  Prospective students are expected to attend an interview with their parents.
